neiluk Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 Hi all, I'm still on my quest to find my first Galaxy and have yet to find one for sale close to me! . I have found a good candidate but it's spesification confused me. It's a 1996 (P) car and has Climate Control, Electric heated seats, Parking Sensors, and a CD multichanger and was called both a Ghia and Ghia X in the ad, but it only has a 1998cc engine. As the 2.0l engine never came out in Ghia or Ghia X I'm guessing the car is a GLX with the 'Luxury Pack' added. Can the owner now reasonably call his GLX a Ghia X with the luxury pack as it seems to ve very similar in specification to one now. I cant see any trim badge on the back in the photo. Did Ford leave it off in cars with the added luxury pack? Please can someone piont me in the right direction to some photos of Mk1 2.0 and 2.3l engines as I have asked the owner to send me a picture of his engine for clarification (just incase he has a 2.3l and doesn't know it!). The engine has done 160,000 miles but is stated as running very well. How many miles can I reasonably expect it to have left without huge bills? Does the 2.0l have a cam or chain belt? Thank you all for your help, Neil. Quote

Guest wolfie Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Also check the rear doors! a GLX will have a G in round badge, a Ghia will have a shield emblem with Ghia on it, a true Ghia X will have the Ghia X logo in chrome under the side repeater on the front wing Quote

neiluk Posted April 15, 2007 Author Report Posted April 15, 2007 I've just given it a test drive! And I'm still confused! The car is http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=006 It has the Ghia X badge underneath both side indicators and says Ghia X in the service log book. The Ghia badge is on it's rear sides. It doesn't have the rear fan speed switch for the middle seats but that might not count for anything. I was very tempted to buy it but the Air con needs recharging after a condenser (or something) was changed and not filled with coolant again. The thing that really stoped me was that the ABS light came on soon after starting my test drve and stayed on. The breaks seemed to work well but were rather soft in their action and had to be pressed quite a way down to stop quickly. The car had its battery disconnected as it hadn't been used in a few months and the radio had to have it's code put in to get it to work. Could this have upset the ABS system? I think I read somewhere that this can take a while to reset itself after things sometimes??? Would this usually be expensive to fix? Would my capable local garage be able to fix the ABS or just Ford garages? Thanks for your continued help, Neil. Quote
Guest wolfie Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 It wont have the switch for the rear heater as it's a climate control model, the rear heater is controlled only by the climate control panel, interior is Cassina Bluestone available in both Ghia and GhiaX although it has the right rims for a GhiaX, only worry is the AC and ABS! both fixable! but at what and whose cost? big_kev Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 The car is a Ghia X they were available on all MK1 galaxys although quite rare on the 2.0l I would negotiate the price based on the aircon not working could be expensive to repair and the ABS being required for an MOT.....doesn't matter if it works or not....waste of space in my opinion. This has no effect on the brakes being soft...quite normal.....remember that ABS stands for Anti-Lock Braking System.....stops the wheels locking....has no other effect on the braking system.Probably just a dodgy sensor.
